Grand Canyon

We’ve been in Williams, Arizona now for a couple of days. On the way here from Zion, Bob wanted to see Dinosaur Tracks, which he really enjoyed, so we spent one night in a place called Tuba City. It is an economically-deprived place on an Indian reservation, that lacked beauty and a “safe” feeling. We wouldn’t recommend it or go back there if our lives depended on it. Did I happen to mention that I hated it there?

Last night we had Dave and Susan over for dinner (our friends that we met on the Salt Lake City tour) and we had a really enjoyable evening. Today we all took a tour of the Grand Canyon. The 12-passenger bus picked us up at our R.V. park and it was a 1-hr. drive to the north rim of the Grand Canyon. The driver narrated all 8 hours that we spent with him. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the commercialization of the park, as well as the geology.
The Colorado River carved the chasm into the Canyon several million years ago, and the process continues today. We were taken to many different viewpoints, and our guide pointed out how the landscape looked different at each stop. The layers of rock are constantly being eroded by wind, rain, and snow. The freezing temperatures in the winter and the heat in the summer also cause changes to the landscape of this 1 ½ mile-deep awesome National Park.
