Garnet Ghost Town

Thursday was a really fun day. Bob says it was a step back in time. My childhood friend, Gwen (Nickles) works at the Garnet Ghost Town in Montana. We met her for a tour of the town. Many of the original buildings were still standing although a fire in 1912 had burned down part of the town. Gwen then took us to an old abandoned mill and we also saw many old gold mines. Then we took a long and dusty road out to Gwen's 10 acres where she and her husband have their home. They are truly pioneers, getting their electricity and water from a generator and a well pump. They hunt their own meat and grow their own vegetables. We all had dinner together and we enjoyed hearing about their many years of being forest rangers and camp hosts. Observing their life style, we now know the true meaning of "roughing it".
