Friday evening during dinner, we heard bagpipes playing somewhere in the campground. So our curiosity made us go look for the person who was playing the pipes. The pretty sound of the Scottish song led us to a young lady who said she was practicing for the competition on Saturday. She told us about the annual Highland festival at a large park nearby. She recommended that we go to the festival to hear the “piping” and watch the dance and band competitions. So that’s where we spent our day on Saturday! We really enjoyed watching the pipers and Highland dancers compete. There were also games to watch, and vendors selling food and traditional Scottish items. The highlight of the day was when the festivities culminated with all of the bagpipe and drum bands on the field together (400-500 people) ALL playing together that familiar Scottish anthem that we’ve heard before. It was really awesome.
