Wildlife!

It was almost dark when this was taken

We were beginning to think the only wildlife we were going to see was the people coming out of pubs (just kidding). Then last night during dinner in the motorhome, Bob noticed people all walking in the same direction with their cameras. So we got the camera, left dinner on the table and joined the crowd. There was a mama elk with her baby and we watched them for a while. Then we heard this horrible sound, kind of like a groan or scream, and it was the buck! We were told it’s mating season, so beware of elk. Here he came to stake his claim on the female. He kept making that sound! We were happy that we finally saw them up close (close enough!) and got to get a picture. The female and baby were very pretty. The buck was a little threatening. Someone had heard that he charged a car the night before, so we kept our distance. Then this morning on the way out, we saw seven more elk. Then we saw some deer.... Now it’s okay to leave the rocky mountains.
We drove for five hours and we're now in Prince George, British Columbia (for those who call us, we're back on Pacific time). The landscape on the way here was different from the mountains, but still really pretty with green rolling hills and farmland and lots of trees that are starting to take on Autumn colors.

We called Garrett this morning and sang happy birthday to him and we remember so clearly how our lives changed eight years ago today when we became grandparents for the first time.

These were taken this morning
